Competitive Examinations and pain of a Teacher.
"What is the use of my efforts Sir ?"
A senior faculty member has above question . She is a very sincere and dedicated teacher handling Higher Secondary Section. All through her aim is to see that students score very high. Like other faculty members she is on duty 24 x 7 . Any time students can approach her , clear their doubts. Even on Holidays she is available for students.
But in the heart of heart, she is worried. Students who are appearing for Board Examinations are more interested in their NEET and JEE examinations rather that Board Examinations. Last priority is for Board Examinations. The performance of Board Examination is not going to effect the results of Competitive Examinations. Selection to professional collages depends on the performance in competitive examinations. Scoring in Board examination is not going to affect their admissions in professional collages. Just a pass in Board examination is sufficient. Hence students are not giving much importance to Board Examinations.
The indifferent attitude of students to wards board examination is bothering the school teachers. They feel that their efforts are not appreciated rather ignored. Their inner conscious becomes restless.
There was a time when 50% of board examination scores were taken for deciding the ranking for admission to professional collages. Of late that practice is discontinued.
In our country, Education is in concurrent list. It includes the power to be considered by both the union and state government.. Almost each state has its own Secondary Education Board and they conduct Examinations for secondary and Higher Secondary stages. There lacks uniformity in syllabus, evaluation and grading. Many states boost the marks and award high scores so that those students will have a better chance to get into professional collages.
Probably in order to avoid this ambiguity, a National Testing system was involved and seats were allotted based on the scores obtained in national test.
Board examination scores were ignored. Students are taking Board Examinations very casually and School teachers are worried a lot.
Then the question :-
"What is the use of my efforts Sir ?"
